The McWhorter Family Genealogy describes the family lines of William McWhorter, the paternal great-great-grandfather of James P. Keller
Jim's grandmother, Ida Davis, was born in Marion County, Indiana, the daughter of Henry Davis and Harriet Adelaide McWhorter(1840-1932). Harriet's parents were William McWhorter and Mary Ann Campbell. The McWhorters came to Marion County, Indiana in 1838.
The origin on the McWhorter's in Delaware is rather murky. Most accounts indicate Hugh McWhorter as the progenitor, but many accounts are conflicting concerning the descendants and relationships. For further speculation on how William McWhorter might be tied in please refer to The Delaware McWhorters

The ancestry of William McWhorter has not been settled. It would appear reasonably certain, though, that he was descended from the McWhorters who are well known to have settled in Delaware. Both a John and William McWhorter served in the Revolutionary War from Delaware, so considering his date of birth, it is possible that William was either the son or grandson of one of these. The first extant record of William McWhorter is his 1829 Delaware Marriage Bond to Mary Ann Campbell. The parents names are not given and Mary Ann Campbell's ancestry has not yet been traced further. Based upon the later census records their children were born in Maryland until 1835. Early maps show that a Jefferson McWhorter lived in Maryland, adjacent to Delaware and is buried there. It is likely that Jefferson was a cousin of or otherwise related to William. William and Mary Ann's next child was born in Ohio in 1837. They apparantly lived in Ohio for a very short time as their next child was born in Indiana in 1839.
When they arrived in Indiana in 1838 they settled on property that is now part of the Crown Hill Cemetary in north Indianapolis. For the most part, the entire family remained in that area into the Twentieth Century.
One son, Samuel, died at Memphis during the Civil War. The mother's survivor's pension application contains interesting details, particularly in original letters written by Samuel to his brother.
Many of the McWhorter's were of great longevity. Mary Ann (Campbell) McWhorter lived to be at least 74 and her children Harriett Adelaide (91), William (93), and Levi (90) surpassed her. I never knew any of the McWhorters, but my dad clearly remembered "Ma" McWhorter (Harriet Adelaide McWhorter Davis) and "Uncle Bill" McWhorter (William, Jr). My track on the McWhorters has run cold after about 1920, but I hope to turn up some of the current descendants with your help!
