Benjamin Packard, born in Massachusetts, went with his parents in the 1790's to Vermont. He was reported as a runaway with his brother, Silas, by his father in August 1808 and was described as tall, slim and apt to stammer. His father offered a one cent reward for their return. He returned later, married there and then went to upper New York state sometime before 1820. He quit claimed to the estate of her father, Philip Royce, on 1 August 1829. After his apparent return to Castile, Allegany County, New York, he was back in Yorkshire in the mid 1830's and thereafter until his death. He was Town Clerk of Yorkshire in 1836-37 and 1841.
