32. Alexander4 McCausland (John3, William2, James1) was born in Donaghanie, Co. Tyrone, Ireland 22 February 1816. Alexander died 16 May 1892 in Neodasha, Kansas, at 76 years of age.

He married Sarah Sylphina Howard in "mansion House", Morgan Co, Ohio, 1 September 1844. Sarah was born in Richmond, N. H. 17 August 1822. Sarah was the daughter of Joseph Howard and Olive Leonard. Sarah died after 1911. Came from Vermont to live with her brother.

Occupation: MD, Druggist, various. He came to the US with his parents when 7 years old, and settled near Webster, Mass. Apprenticed to a shoemaker at Lynne, Mass. while a boy. Attended Hollistown Academy, Mass. and taught school for a time. In 1840 he moved to Morgan (Ashtabula) Co. Ohio and studied medicine with Dr. Omti Willey. Owing to delicate health, he gave up the life of an MD and engaged in the boot and shoe business. While thus engaged he met and married his wife Sarah. Alexander was postmaster for some years and also president of the board of education. He gave up business for a time and engaged in agricultural pursuits, then moved to Neodasha, Kansas in 1880, where he again resumed business as a druggist and continued until his death in 1892. He was a devoted Free Mason, and in later years a member of the M.E. Church.

Alexander McCausland and Sarah Sylphina Howard had the following children:

child 73 ii. Marry Jane McCausland was born in Rock Creek, Ohio 24 March 1847. Marry died 5 November 1862 at 15 years of age.

child + 74 iii. Sarah Louise McCausland was born 5 December 1849.

child + 75 iv. Sylphina Lucene McCausland was born 20 December 1851.

child 76 v. John Howard McCausland was born in Rock Creek, Ohio 23 August 1853. John died 6 December 1855 in Rock Creek, Ohio, at 2 years of age.

child + 77 vi. James Fenton McCausland was born 15 October 1856.

child 78 vii. Harriet Isabelle McCausland was born in Rock Creek, Ohio 11 November 1858. Harriet died 12 September 1859 in Rock Creek, Ohio, at less than one year of age.

child + 79 viii. Bertha Luella McCausland was born 26 August 1863.
