120. Bertha Letitia⁶ McCausland (John⁵, William⁴, James³, William², James¹) was born in Glen Loch, Pennsylvania 2 February 1884. Bertha died 1974 in Glenside, Pennsylvania, at 90 years of age.⁽⁷⁹⁾ Her body was interred in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.⁽⁸⁰⁾

She married Walter Raymond Thierolf in Lyndell, Pennsylvania (in John's Old Hm, 1 September 1911. Walter was born in Fountainville, Pennsylvania 1887.⁽⁸¹⁾ Walter was the son of William Thierolf and Charlotte _. Walter died 1942 in Glenside, Pennsylvania, at 55 years of age.⁽⁸²⁾ His body was interred in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.⁽⁸³⁾ Occupation: Principal, Teacher. Principal of Hulmeville High School, Bucks Co, Pennsylvania. Graduate of West Chester State Normal School and Muhlenberg College, U Of D. Teacher, Guthriesville School and Hulmeville, Easton, Philadelphia.

Occupation: Teacher, Guthriesville. Graduate of West Chester State Normal School. Constructed crossword puzzles. Of special interest is the old Guthriesville Schoolhouse on Horseshoe Pike, now in use (1991) as the township building of East Brandywine Township in Chester County. In this two-room schoolhouse, Bertha Letitia McCausland taught the elementary school on the first floor, and Walter Thierolf taught the high school on the second floor. After many faculty meetings, they were married in her parents' home in Lyndell, just up the road. Among their pupils were quite a few McCausland nieces and nephews, including Jack, Eddie, and Eleanor McCausland and a namesake, Bertha Letitia McCausland. Alan McCausland (son of Jack) currently presides over the East Brandywine Township Board of Supervisors in the building. Also of note is the fact that a large number of John McCausland's progeny, spanning 5 generations, still reside in the Downingtown area of Chester County. The frequent occurrence of sister-brother combinations marrying other neighborhood sister-brother pairs, while unusual, is probably due to the sparse population in the area in the early days.
