Sailboat

Hi folks! Well, we did it again.  In November 2002 we took a trip to Virginia and decided that we would make "THE BIG MOVE".  After two more trips looking at locations, houses, etc, we decide to move to Fredericksburg.  We put the house on the market in April 2003, sold in July and packed up and left on September 11th.  After a few days in LA saying our farewells and an enjoyable and uneventful drive through Flagstaff, Santa Fe, Oklahoma City, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville and Asheville we arrived in Fredericksburg on September 19th.   We moved into our temporary apartment abode on the 22nd and after the usual home building pitfalls moved into our new house new house in July 2004 However,Jim was away during much of the building phase since he started doing "on-call" consulting for NATO in Luxembourg in January 2004 - and is still at it. With the trips back and forth to Luxembourg, progress on the house has been somewhat hit and miss, but at least we have it fully furnished and the landscape is beginning to look "mature". Click here if you want to know what else we've been up to recently.

We decided on Fredericksburg since we are still in the country but only one hour + by car or train to Washington, which is one of our most favorite cities.  Fredericksburg is a wonderful historic city with a small town feeling, but like many areas these days, is growing like wild in the surrounding countryside.   As a result, we have all of the usual nearby shopping - Home Depot, Costco, Best Buy, Sears, etc., but with the increasing traffic to go with it.

Even though our postal address is Fredericksburg, we are in Spotsylvania County, 10 miles west of "downtown" .  Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania are dripping in history with four major Civil War battlefields - Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, The Wilderness and Spotsylvania Courthouse.   As a matter of fact our new house is quite near to the Chancellorsville battlefield.    I guess we'll need to get a metal detector to hunt for bullets and buttons.   Click here if you want to know more about the area.

Our Fredericksburg family includes the same bunch:

Kilroy

Jim, Chief Home Tinkerer

Having a degree in Electrical Engineering, Jim will be the "Chief Operating Engineer" - keeping the house and property in good order, finishing the unfinished basement, and tearing out and rebuilding those things that we thought were perfect when we built the house.  Since we will now have only one acre instead of our previous five, he should also have more time to goof off on the computer

Trish, Captain of the Ship

Trish, being a Scot's lass from Aberdeen, naturally is of a seafaring nature. This helps materially in keeping our ship afloat as Jim constantly redesigns it.  Trish already has an organized plan for the furnishings needed to complement a new house.  All we need now is a budget.

Peanuts, Family Clown and Counselor

Peanuts, a cross between a Spaniel and an unknown creature, is the most intelligent of the family. Whenever we need help, he is always ready to provide counsel - providing we give him a cookie.  He is also the ever vigilant watchdog, running across the yard to chase off the squirrels and other beastly intruders and keeping an eye open for hawks to protect us from being carried away.

What is this all about?

This is our home page which will lead you to bits and pieces of what we're up to.  As time progresses we'll add events, pictures, etc.  Since we've been saying this for over 5 years, don't expect instant changes.   Since Jim is hung up on the Genealogy thing links will be provided to the skeletons in the Keller and Cranna closets. Trish will insist on equal time by providing links to her favorite dog stuff.
